(Updated March 24, 2020) Mud Bay has served the Pacific Northwest community for over 30 years, and we’re honored so many of you have trusted us during the coronavirus pandemic for help feeding your dogs and cats. As an essential business under Washington and Oregon’s stay-at-home orders, Mud Bay will remain open during the upcoming weeks. To keep our customers and Muddies safe, we’ve implemented these changes you’ll see in our stores.
We’ve been honored by the supportive comments and messages from many Mud Bay customers during this difficult time. Here’s a letter from Mud Bay’s co-CEOs Lars Wulff and Marisa Wulff explaining how Mud Bay is responding to this global pandemic and what you can expect from our company.
Free Curbside Pickup
One of the best ways to prevent the coronavirus is through social distancing. Social distancing is simple with free curbside pickup: Just call your local Mud Bay to place an order over the phone, and your supplies will be delivered to your car when you arrive.
Enforced Social Distancing
We’re limiting store occupancy and using blue tape to help customers stay at least six feet away from other people. Don’t worry, we’ll be coaching all our customers through this new way of interacting. For example, we won’t be able to check you out until you place your purchases on the register counter and step back behind the blue line. Our many social distancing steps are an important part of the plan put into place to keep our Muddies—and our customers—safe during this time.
Raised Stocking Levels and Still Open Every Day
Our stores have plenty of food, treat and supply options for all dogs and cats. Although our hours have changed and may continue to change to meet safety and staffing needs—please check our store locations page for up-to-date information—we’re still open every day during the pandemic. Our mission is to contribute to your pet’s health and your happiness, and we’re committed to doing it for as long as we can.
Hand-Washing Stations and More Surface Disinfection
Outside of every store are hand-washing stations for customers to use before they enter our store. Inside our stores, we’re regularly cleaning hard surfaces and washing our hands to further minimize the spread of germs.
Increased Paid Time Off, Thank You Pay and Wellness Guidelines
Mud Bay has increased paid time off and asked Muddies who feel unwell to stay home. Every Muddy is responsible for taking their temperature before they start work for the day, and Muddies take time off and self-quarantine when they are exposed to someone who may have COVID-19. We’re also paying Muddies $2 more per hour when they work in stores, as a thank you to recognize their essential work.
We’d like to thank all the customers who have been patient and supportive as we’ve been working to respond to this unprecedented crisis. With your help, Mud Bay will continue to contribute to the health of dogs and cats and the happiness of their owners long after this crisis has passed.
